The 13th International Conference on Agricultural Trade Policies (ICATP), with the theme of "Food Security and Global Agricultural Governance in the Post-COVID-19 Era", organized by Agricultural Trade Promotion Center (ATPC) of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, was held on November 11. Ma Hongtao, Director General of ATPC, attended and addressed the Conference.
Ma Hongtao pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic has generated a huge impact on the global agricultural supply chain, resulting in a disruption in the availability of food and a surge in food prices, further exacerbated by extreme weathers, regional conflicts and other non-traditional factors in 2022. In the context of increasing global concerns about food security and significant challenges to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, it’s expected that the participants could contribute their wisdom to building up food security for all, improving global agricultural governance, and accommodating China's agricultural and rural modernization and rural revitalization. The Conference proved to be a robust platform for in-depth discussion and brainstorm for policy makers, academia and stakeholders to explore ways to approach crisis facing the world, and address challenges of food security and global agricultural governance against the backdrop of rising destabilizing factors, including COVID-19, geopolitical conflict, and climate change, among others.
Senior representatives and distinguished experts from Development Research Center of the State Council, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Research Center for Rural Economy of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Hebei Agricultural University, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, South China Agricultural University, University of International Business and Economics, Permanent Mission of China to WTO, as well as international institutions, such as FAO and OECD, delivered keynote speeches or dedicated presentations. Nearly 300 representatives from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and other line ministries, local government agencies of agriculture and rural affairs, research institutes and key agricultural enterprises, as well as international institutions, attended the Conference.
The Conference is also the first thematic forum of the the 7th China International Food & Ingredients Expo (CIFIE) and the 1st China International Pre-made Food Industry Expo (CIPFIE) to be held by ATPC, marking the initiation of their concurrent activities.
