China's Agricultural Trade in 2023

China's agricultural trade value basically unchanged year-on-year to $333.0 billion in 2023. Exports expanded by 0.9 percent to $98.9 billion. Imports decreased by 0.3 percent to $234.1 billion. Trade deficit shrank by 1.2 percent to $135.2 billion.

The details are as follows:   

1. Cereals imports increased by 11.1 percent to 59.1 million tons and exports also fell 21.3 percent to 1.9 million tons. Net imports increased by 12.6 percent to 57.2 million tons.    

2. Cotton imports increased by 0.2 percent to 2.0 million tons. Cotton yarn imports increased by 43.4 percent to 1.7 million tons.

3. Sugar imports decreased by 24.7 percent to 4.0 million tons.    

4. Edible oilseeds imports increased by 15.4 percent to 1087.5 million tons while exports decreased by 0.3 percent to 1.0 million tons.    

5. Edible vegetable oil imports increased by 40.6 percent to 10.2 million tons, while exports increased by 16.2 percent to 0.2 million tons.   

6. Vegetables exports grew by 8.4 percent to $18.5 billion and imports increased by 6.8 percent to $1.0 billion. Trade surplus widened by 8.4 percent to $17.6 billion.    

7. Fruits exports increased by 2.2 percent to $7.1 billion while imports increased by 16.3 percent to $18.3 billion. Trade deficit widened by 27.2 percent to $11.3 billion.    

8. Livestock products imports decreased by 12.3 percent to $45.2 billion while exports fell 5.0 percent to $6.1 billion. Trade deficit shrank by 13.3 percent to $39.1 billion.    

9. Fisheries and aquaculture products exports decreased by 11.1 percent to $20.5 billion, and imports increased by 0.3 percent to $23.8 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $3.3 billion.
